About us

This is the site of Tatiana Smagin, a one-person practice working in bookbinding and book repair: spines and hinges rebuilt, text blocks resewn on tapes or cords, new bindings in cloth or leather, paper mended and guarded with Japanese paper and starch paste, and clamshell boxes and slipcases built to fit the book, all sewn and covered by hand. Its job is simple: describe what we do, show how to reach us, and put the person behind it on record.

The work we do

We handle bookbinding and book repair: spines and hinges rebuilt, text blocks resewn on tapes or cords, new bindings in cloth or leather, paper mended and guarded with Japanese paper and starch paste, and clamshell boxes and slipcases built to fit the book, all sewn and covered by hand for customers in our area. Enquiries arriving through this site are read by a person, who replies with what is available, what it would involve and what it would cost. No payment is taken on this website.

From enquiry to answer

• You tell us what you need and how to reach you.
• We reply with availability, timescale and a clear quote.
• Anything binding is agreed in writing, directly with us — never through a form on this page.

How we present ourselves

• No ratings, customer numbers or sales figures that we could not back up.
• Illustrations are drawn to show the kind of work we do; they are not passed off as photographs of it.
• No card or bank details are requested here or by email.

Where the name comes from

The name Tatiana Smagin is taken from the binder who does this work on her own, and in whose name tatianasmagin.online is registered. There is no earlier website behind it: every page here was written for this domain.
